Agaric is a restaurant partnership between Sophie and Nick Coiley.
Agaric

Our approach is relaxed and informal, delivering food of the highest quality. We pride ourselves on the excellence of our raw materials, our cuisine and our individual approach.

'Agaric,' opened in Ashburton in August 2000 bringing a much needed venue for fine dining to the popular Dartmoor town. The restaurant serves a la carte lunches and dinner, with the emphasis on the highest standards. Delicious vegetarian dishes are also featured. Chef Nick Coiley was Head Chef and director at the 'Carved Angel,' where, with Joyce Molyneux, he created its internationally acknowledged reputation as one of the best restaurants in England.

The menu at 'Agaric' offers the highest quality seasonal and locally produced food, but at affordable prices, in the week we offer a light lunch at £12.50 and most main courses are around £16.95. Menus constantly evolve combining traditional and contemporary cuisine to suit both modern and more mature lifestyles and tastes. Throughout the summer, we serve drinks and food in our sunny courtyard garden. At weekends we fire up the barbecue (weather permitting), and our wood fired clay bread oven.

We have special nights throughout the year where we focus on a theme and have a set 4 course menu for £32.00. Past nights have included, Thai, Spanish, Fish & shellfish, Wild mushrooms & game, Hot & Spicy, French, Local produce………..any suggestions!

The atmosphere and decor are relaxed, focusing on comfort rather than formality. Our service is attentive, friendly and efficient. The wine list is regularly updated, offering a range from affordable house wines to more superior bottles and champagnes. We enjoy sourcing wines from individual wine makers, often using maverick or traditional techniques. We favour the smaller producer and avoid anything too commercial, however 'fashionable' it may seem.

We came to be living and working in this area primarily because of its beauty, the ability to live the lifestyles we choose, and because of the abundance of fantastic food produced between the moors and the sea. Our time out from the restaurant is spent with our children, either in the woods picking chanterelles, ceps and oyster mushrooms etc. or at the beach collecting winkles, samphire , laver and razor clams. Customers and friends add to the bounty by dropping off surplus fruit, flowers, beautiful white peaches, rosemary branches, eggs, and all manner of delectable treats. Nothing is overlooked , next door's blackcurrant prunings are welcomed into the kitchen and soon become an exquisitely fragranced blackcurrant leaf sorbet to go with homemade meringues.
